Crash Course: Introduction to UX (What – How – Why)

Ever wondered what user experience (UX) is exactly? How is it different from usability? How does user experience (UX) relate to user interfaces (UI)? How is it done? What are the different phases of human-centered design, and how do they relate to each other? What does it mean to work in one of the various UX job roles? This short course helps you navigate the UX field and acts as the basis for your UX career.

Introduction to Human-Centered Design (UX Design)

This course provides an introduction to human-centred design, focused on providing good user experience (UX) and usability. Besides learning about the basic theoretical inputs, the participants will work in groups to gain hands-on experiences covering every phase of human-centred design: Exploratory user research to identify the context of use, specifying user requirements, ideation and UX design, testing usability and UX, and iterating on the results.

This course includes access to the catalogue of LinkedIn Learning for several weeks of the course. The coach will provide additional learning materials to help learners grow their UX competencies. Learners are welcome to take any additional course on LinkedIn Learning they like.

  • Foundational and intermediate methods of user research, especially performing interviews and observations
  • Communicating user research results, for example with personas and journey maps
  • Translating user needs into requirements
  • Ideation and prototyping to create design solutions (e.g., scenarios, storyboards, task models, wireframes)
  • Solid overview and hands-on experience with different testing methods, e.g. usability testing, user experience testing, remote
  • Testing, survey-based measurement of usability and UX
  • Creating usability test reports and deriving recommendations for follow-up iterations
  • Understanding the business side of UX and aligning the organization to deliver positive experiences
